Wharf 78 tender

Warehouse living in East London.

It’s tender time for the transformative reworking of this apartment in a converted wharf in the historic riverside district of Wapping. Our client loved the location, heritage and potential for chic, open-plan modern warehouse living the property promised, but the layout needed a serious rethink.

Past into present - The warehouse was converted in the 80s for residential use, and very little has changed. We’re stripping it back, revealing the industrial beauty of warehouse living by removing linings to expose the original brickwork and cracking open plasterboard to showcase the structural steel beams.

Layout for living - With lots of dead space and a tiny enclosed kitchen, the plan wasn’t working as hard as it should. We’ve opened things up with a new modern kitchen/living space and made two clever insertions - a bathroom and service pod and a storage and wardrobe pod because there’s never enough storage.

No blurred backgrounds - Our client’s work means they’re on video calls at all times of the day and night with people around the world. We’ve designed bespoke cabinetry to conceal open shelves, creating a clean, professional backdrop.

Modern material mix - We’ve gone for a minimal palette of materials to complement the cool, calm aesthetic of the warehouse. The pared-back selection of concrete, brick steel and timber allows our client’s much-loved artwork, furniture and belongings to shine through.
