Workers' rights to four-day week could be strengthened
We were recently invited to discuss the new government's recent proposals for a four-day week, as reported by the BBC.
Full-time workers' rights to ask for a four-day working week could be strengthened under government plans to increase flexible working.
Employees would still have to work their full hours to receive their full pay but could request to compress their contracted hours into a shorter working week, as first reported by the Daily Telegraph.
The proposals involve workers being able to compress their working time into four days, working ten hours per day rather than the usual eight hours per day over five days. This fundamentally misses the point of a four-day working week and negates the proven benefits of working fewer hours for increased productivity. Our four-day week is 32 hours, Monday to Thursday, for no loss in pay, as supported by the 4 Day Week Campaign - we are a gold member.
We were interviewed by Channel 5 and appeared in the below segment on their evening 5 at 5 news programme.
ITV also interviewed us, and we appeared on their 6:30 pm and 10 pm news programmes.
